Summer Projects

Summer Projects

Each intern is expected to develop a summer project. The criteria and basis of the project is to take an idea from beginning to end, owning the weight of leadership in the project as you administer the gospel to and through the coach.

Here are a few examples/ideas for potential summer projects and what some interns have done previously:

Coaches Appreciation Event

Kennedy Mogul // Lincoln, NE // Summer 2020

Kennedy organized a coaches appreciation breakfast for middle school coaches in her hometown, York, Nebraska. She wanted to honor and encourage the middle school coaches, as they often don't get much recognition for their investment.

Kennedy organized the event, dealing with the details of things like:

  • a place to meet and host the event
  • coordinate with school administration
  • advertising the event
  • arranging catering
  • lining up people to speak at the event (FCA Staff, local FCA board member, student in middle school FCA huddle)

Kennedy wanted to show appreciation for all that these coaches are doing in the young athlete's lives, and encouraged them to think about the impact only one minute can make in an athlete's life -- a minute to build them up or tear them down in the midst of competition, or even to share the gospel, making an eternal impact in their lives.

Podcast

Maddie Wiltse // Kearney, NE // Summer 2021

""The Prize" podcast invites you into conversations with collegiate coaches and athletes as they share about competing for Christ. These coaches and athletes bring faith into sports and teach others how to do the same. Rather than only striving for trophies and medals, they have learned the importance of seeking the eternal prize Paul writes about in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27. Hosted by Maddie Wiltse, a member of the women's basketball team at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, "The Prize" podcast offers insight about living out the Christian faith in sports."

Sport Specific Camp & Testimony

Adam Wehrman // Lincoln, NE // Summer 2021

Adam organized and ran a camp for football specialists. He helped the athletes work on long snapping and kicking technique. He was intentional in keeping the gospel at the forefront of his mind while he ran the camp, and tried to share the gospel in the process of teaching technique. At the end of the camp, he had an optional session where he shared his testimony with the athletes.

Adam had to:

  • Arrange a place, date, and time for the camp to take place
  • Select and carry out drills
  • Advertise and promote his camp
  • Make camp t-shirts

Blog

Diane Hurst // Grand Island, NE // Summer 2022

Diane created a blog where she wrote and posted stories recapping her experience in the internship. She talked about experiences at FCA camps, in the curriculum she read, the interactions and speaking opportunities she had at sport training camps, and things that stuck out to her and what she learned in the internship.

Free Strength & Conditioning Training & Testimony

Similar to the sport specific camp, but you could run a strength and conditioning session instead of sports training. You would have to consider:

  • Which exercises, lifts, etc. to demonstrate and lead athletes through
  • Organizing a facility, date, and time for your session
  • Advertising your session
  • Sharing your testimony at the end
  • Keeping a gospel mindset throughout

3D Coaching Booth at State 7on7

Set up a booth to give information about 3D Coaching and the impact it can have on athletes at the State 7on7 football tournament. Spend the day at the tournament talking with coaches and providing resources for them to get connected into 3D Coaching.
