Scripture Memory

Scripture Memory

Part of the internship includes memorizing scripture. All interns are required to memorize Romans Road, and are encouraged to work on other passages or verses of choice.

Romans Road

A collection of Bible verses out of the book of Romans to help explain the gospel and our salvation in Jesus Christ.

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. Romans 1:18-20 NIV

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 NIV

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 NIV

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 NIV

That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Romans 10:9-10 NIV

Example Choice Passage:

Ephesians 2

"I chose to work on memorizing the entire second chapter in Ephesians, and was able to recite it in front of everyone at Leadership Camp! This experience was incredibly humbling for me. Despite having recited the passage flawlessly many times before, once I got on stage, I had a 30 second pause about halfway through. I eventually found my place and was able to pick up again, but it was a great reminder that I am not memorizing scripture for my own glory. It's not about me, but rather, it's about the truth of the gospel and the glory that belongs to God, just like what we learn from Ephesians 2 -- we are made ALIVE in Christ even when we were DEAD in sin!

My greatest hope is that people would see this and be encouraged that they can do the same thing. It is not because I am an FCA intern that I was able to memorize a whole chapter of scripture. I am just a human, a poor college student, a sinner in need of a Savior. With repeated work and rehearsal, you can memorize scripture too, no matter how old you are, how much free time you have, or any other excuse that you may have. And throughout all of this, I have found that the Holy Spirit reveals so much about the powerful words that you are saying while reciting scripture."
