One of the biggest things I learned at Distance Camp really had nothing to do with the camp itself at all. I had been asked to lead a devotional on Friday morning of camp – the last day. So I began thinking and praying about what I would share that morning. There were so many passages I considered, but after praying over them and reading through them, I felt led to Ephesians 6:10-20 (the armor of God!!). I prepared my devotional before camp and was feeling excited to share.
Then I got to huddle leader training the day before campers show up, and we had a Zoom Meeting with the main speaker so he could share his outline and plan for what he would be speaking on. He got to his plan for Friday morning’s assembly, and my jaw dropped. He was going to speak over Ephesians 6:10-20. My mind began racing, thinking, “oh, how awkward!” The campers would be hearing the exact same passage only about three hours apart. I wondered if I should just use a different passage, maybe one of the ones I had considered previously. I began to pray for direction in this.
The next day, I spoke with the main speaker, and he was encouraged by the situation. He said it seemed like confirmation that God wanted the kids to hear this message. So I stayed with my original plan.
Additionally, the girls huddle leader skit was based on the armor of God (and it wasn’t my idea) – which gave even more confirmation that for some reason, God wanted Ephesians 6 repeated for these kids at camp.
So, from all of this, I was able to see that God was working. God was working before camp even happened when He led the speaker and I to both share out of Ephesians 6, hours apart, on the same day. We both prepared to share this BEFORE camp. Then, DURING camp, He was working when the message was shared. So, I can also trust that God will be working AFTER camp, continuing to transform hearts, because I could see His faithfulness before and during camp, so I know he will be faithful still after.
